Martin Gardner creating the game Hip. Gardner was best known for creating and sustaining interest in recreational mathematics. He wrote different "Mathematical Games" in his column in Scientific American for twenty-five years.


  • Players take turns putting a counter on any empty cell on the 6 x 6 board.
  • Players try to AVOID creating a square with any 4 of their counters.
  • Squares may be any size and rotated at any angle. There are 105
    trap squares here. Do not create one!
